TOUR DETAILS:
The tour will include South Main Street, Academy Street, Dixie Avenue, and Old Post Road. You’ll hear stories of why Madison wasn’t burned, walk on the stagecoach route, see the first Graded School (1895), hear the connection the Allman Brothers band has to Heritage Hall in Madison (1811 home), hear stories of the family who once owned the Cyclorama, hear stories of two colleges once housed in Madison and see one of the remaining buildings that is now a private home, see Sen Joshua Hill’s house, and much, much more! Madison is the home of nearly 100 antebellum homes, so we will see many on our walk.
Three house museums are available for an additional cost. If you choose not to visit them, the tour guide will still give you the stories as they are passed. One is an Antebellum home built in 1811, one is a middle class home from the early 1800s, and another is a home built in 1892 by a lady who was born into slavery.
